Bulldogs for Sale
Bulldogs for sale with huge fat nose ropes and dripping with wrinkles. When you are searching online for Bulldogs for sale and are looking at the breed standard it is important to consider the differences between genotype and phenotype.
Phenotype is what the dog LOOKS LIKE. Genotype has to do with the genetic makeup of the dog. It is not uncommon for someone to buy a English puppy that is super cute as puppy only to be so disappointed when it grows up. It might be fat and wrinkly when it is born, but look nothing like what is envisioned when it matures. Why is that? In simple terms, genotype. The genetics of the dog will in most cases determine the final outcome on how your dogs will look as a full grown dog. However, once in a while you will see a gorgeous puppy produced out of parents that are more or less ugly. Mom and Dad might have longer legs, thinner bone, a more narrow chest, and be lacking in wrinkles.
But lo and behold. This gorgeous puppy somehow comes out. Some excited person buys this puppy and is so happy. Only when it grows up it looks nothing like what it did as a puppy. It reverts back to its true genotype as it matures. The swan turns back into an ugly duckling. When trying to find a bulldog that fits the AKC breed standard when trying to find Bulldogs for sale it is important to find a puppy that not only is as cute as a button. But one that also has great genotype. Simply put, this means finding a puppy whose parents and grandparents have that same consistent look that you are wanting to find.
On a rare occasion two parents that are relatively not to the breed standard produce an exceptional pup. This pup grows up and miraculously looks just as gorgeous as when it was young. Some bulldog enthusiast who sought long and hard though all the ads online promoting their bulldogs for sale finally comes across this gorgeous pup. And with all its thick bone, big head, massive rib cage, and dripping with wrinkles takes the plunge and buys the puppy. The puppy grows up, and lo and behold it stays gorgeous. The buyer bought this puppy hoping it could be a cornerstone of their new breeding program. But for some strange reason this gorgeous English puppy now grown up to be a gorgeous mom just produces ugly puppies. This new owner never has the opportunity to offer gorgeous, fat, wrinkly bulldogs for sale. All he ends up with is skinny boxerish looking puppy.
So, why? Why are they puppies so ugly and never turn out like mom. The simple answer is genotype. The puppy had great phenotype, but lousy genotype. It does not have the genetic strength to produce breed standard dogs. So the moral of the story. When looking at Bulldogs for sale. It is not enough to know the breed standard. It is not enough to see a beautiful fat wrinkly puppy. You want to see what the parents look like, and if possible what Grandma and Grandpa look like. By purchasing a bulldog that has both great phenotype AND genotype the likelihood of buying a great looking puppy that actually grows up to look like what you had in mind. And to top it off, the likelihood of that dog being able to reproduce itself is greatly increased. Know your dogs genotype when trying to find those bulldogs for sale.
